The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets will face off in a matchup of two struggling teams at MetLife Stadium this Sunday.
Zach Wilson’s back again after having a tough first game back against Houston. Wilson threw for 145 yards, 14-24 completions, 1 rushing touchdown and an INT. John Franklin-Myers had a huge game against Houston and is going to be scary for Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense after having an INT and 2 sacks against the Texans last week.
It will be interesting how Hurts battles back after one of his worst games against the Giants last week. He threw for 129 yards, 14-31, and 3 interceptions. Hurts’ main target this season has been rookie Devonta Smith who has had 686 receiving yards on the season and averaging 14.3 yards with 4 receiving touchdowns.
After the game, in an interview with the Jets reporters on Youtube, Jets head coach Robert Saleh was asked about Wilson stating it wasn’t his best game out there. Saleh’s responded, “I love that he is hard on himself, you know his desire to get better is up there with anyone, he works his tail off at it but at the same time coaches also are hard on ourselves too and it’s our job to help him get better. Was this his best game, No, did he get more comfortable as the game went on, Absolutely, He orchestrated two 13 play drives.”
Wilson was asked why his passes to team mates varies from being too hard or overthrown. He stated, “My mentality in those is to rip the ball and that's why. I’m not playing timid and that’s why some of those throws are coming in fast because I'm telling myself just to rip it and play free and let it go. And yeah I have to adjust, you know I will. I'm gonna work on that with those guys but that’s why some of them came in like that, I’m just trying to play fast.”
Last week, the Jets ran for 157 yards against the Texans and was key to them winning. Even with rookie star running back Michael Carter out with an ankle injury, the Jets have still been able to put together a good run game with Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson, and rookie Austin Walter.
The Eagles passing has not been it lately with Hurts throwing for 129 yards, 14-31, and 3 interceptions against the Giants. Fans are speculating this matchup to be a run game against the Jets. If Sanders can punch through that tough D line with Quinnen Williams and John Franklin-Myers, it should be an easy win against the Jets.
The Eagles and Jets have very little history against each other. They have only played each other 11 times, although the Eagles have won all 11. The Jets are going into this week hoping to break the streak.
Both these teams are having a rough year as the Jets (3-9) and Eagles (5-7) face off this Sunday as the Jets try to end the streak against the Eagles at MetLife.
