The Commander in Chief's Trophy is up for grabs this Saturday as the West Point Army and the US Naval Academy face off in the biggest College Football rivalry ever.
The Army has a strong offense led by quarterback Christain Anderson. He has thrown for 545 yards and five touchdowns coming into the game. This is followed by Tyrell Robinson who is in charge of the run game. At 59 rush attempts this led him to 583 yards and three touchdowns. Anderson’s main receiver is Isiah Alston who has 18 receptions, 384 yards, and three touchdowns. Tai Levatai is behind the Navy’s offense. He has thrown for 367 yards and five touchdowns. For the run game, Isaac Ruoss has 157 rush attempts yielding 608 yards and five touchdowns.
Both teams run the same offensive scheme. The triple option. This offense puts the defensive in a tough spot. They have three players to watch at all times to see who is receiving the ball. Finding this player can be confusing.
Both of these two teams have a great dominant offense that runs the same scheme. The quarterbacks are shown to have a strong pass game but also, the running backs have proven this game could be won on the ground.
This rivalry is one of the biggest. These schools are military academies and there is always a rivalry when it comes to military branches. Every branch wants to show who's the best. 128 years ago the Naval Academy asked West Point to play, ever since then this rivalry has been intense. According to Capital Gazette, “It's always a slugfest.”
Ever since these games have been played, the winners are always noted. Currently the Navy is leading the rivalry 61-53-7 over the West Point Black Knights.
The Army is currently looking in good shape, as they are 8-3 coming off a previous season of 9-3. The Navy is struggling being 3-8 with a previous season of 3-7.
